Love

I've been thinking a lot about love lately. My Valentine post was a bit of a rant as well as an "I love you" to my husband. I saw quite a few posts on facebook showing or telling about what the guy had gotten the girl for Valentine's Day. I didn't see one post about what a girl had gotten/done for her man. Valentine's Day has, sadly, become a day for women to get men to "prove" their love by plans and presents. But that isn't really love.
What does love look like in today's world?
It's the guy I saw on Valentine's day who didn't own a car so he walked in the rain for at least 2 miles one way to purchase a gift for his girl.

It's the man who comes home from work and takes the kids so his wife can have a few moments to herself.

It's my husband who does a load of laundry and the dishes while I take a nap.

It's the spouse who gets tissue and soup when their loved one is sick.

It's the man who missed the trip of a lifetime to stay with his wife after she'd broken her hip.

It's the man who holds his wife's hand after surgery and smiles bravely at her when inside he's crying and scared.

It's my husband calling me beautiful when I've just woken up.

It's the note from the spouse that says thank you for being a great parent to our children.

It's the small things that go unnoticed every day that say "I care and I love you".

Love isn't a once a year thing. It's tiny things every day that show you care. It's flowers and candy, yes. But it's also the pizza my husband picked up on the way home from work so I wouldn't have to cook. It's the hugs when I'm stressed. It's listening even when you don't understand. It's sharing chocolate when you want it all yourself. =) It's saying I'm sorry even when you don't want to.
I read a poster when I was about twelve that I've never forgotten. It said -
Love is what's best for the other person.
I've never forgotten that. Every time I find myself in a selfish moment I remember that poster. I can't say that I always follow it. I still have moments of ME. But it has definitely colored my relationships and how I interact with the people I love.
And I'm so thankful that I have this kind of wonderful love in my life. I see this not only with my spouse, but also in my family and friends around me.
I found some quotes online that I thought I'd share. It's a look at love from other points of view.

Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage.
Lao Tzu

If you live to be a hundred, I want to live to be a hundred minus one day so I never have to live without you.
A.A. Milne

If you press me to say why I loved him, I can say no more than because he was he, and I was I.
Michel de Montaigne

The moment you have in your heart this extraordinary thing called love and feel the depth, the delight, the ecstasy of it, you will discover that for you the world is transformed.
Jiddu Krishnamurti

To love abundantly is to live abundantly, and to love forever is to live forever.
Henry Drummond

Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same.
Emily Bronte
Take a moment to show some love to someone. It will make their day!
